PLANS for a new hall and extra classrooms at a York school could be given the go-ahead next week.

Planning officers at City of York Council have recommended approving proposals which would allow Knavesmire Primary School, in Trafalgar Street, to increase the number of pupils it can accommodate from 260 to 420 over the next three years.

The new main hall would be built within the school’s south wing, where an extension would allow four additional classrooms, while the scheme will also see new toilets, cloakrooms, a reception area and a headteacher’s office created. The council’s west and city centre area planning sub-committee will make a decision next Thursday.
