TO mark the Queen’s visit to York and her Diamond Jubilee, The Press today launches a competition for a young artist to paint or draw a portrait of the Queen.

The competition is open to children aged three to 14, and the winners of the three different age groups – as chosen by the public – will each receive a £50 shopping voucher.

The creator of the entry judged best overall from the three age groups will also receive a bike worth more than £200 from York’s classic bike shop Cycle Heaven.

All shortlisted entries in each category will be published in a special Queen’s Diamond Jubilee supplement in The Press, on Wednesday, May 23, when the public will have the chance to vote for their favourite pictures.

The three age categories are: three to six years; seven to ten years and 11 to 14 years.

All you have to do is paint or draw a colour picture of the Queen and write a Jubilee congratulations message (e.g. Congratulations on your Diamond Jubilee, or Happy 60th anniversary, Your Majesty). This should go at the bottom of your picture. The picture (including the message) must be square and at least 20cms by 20cms in size.

For details of how to enter see The Press newspaper today.
