CONGRATULATIONS to Bill Reader (The Press, March 22) on his selection to receive Maundy Money.

It couldn’t happen to a nicer or more conscientious person.

I’ve known Bill since I was a pupil at Escrick Primary school.

I remember him as estate manager when I was employed at Escrick Park Gardens in the 1950s.

He was a very good cricketer, and has served the church and the community loyally.

In 1967, he offered me the tenancy of an estate cottage when he heard I was planning to marry – an offer I gratefully accepted.

My regards go also to his wife, Pat.
