AN EXPLOSIVE device has been uncovered by workmen at a Malton Hotel resulting in the closure of part of the town.
North Yorkshire Police were called at about 4.25pm today following reports of an explosive device uncovered at the Talbot Hotel on Yorkersgate, which is currently being redeveloped.
Officers have put a 200-metre cordon in place as a precaution and are advising members of the public to avoid the area.
The cordon will remain in place until the army bomb disposal unit have had the chance to examine the object.
In a tweet, a hotel employee said a mortar from WWI had been found in the garden.
