INDEPENDENT travel agency Spear Travels has opened a new travel shop in Helmsley.
The new Ryedale outlet, based at 9 Market Place, is Boroughbridge-based Spear Travels’ seventh shop.
The shop was formerly Dot Summersgill’s Fruit Boutique for 28 years.
Peter Cookson, managing director, started running a travel agency from the spare bedroom of his home near Boroughbridge with his wife, Libby, and bought Spear Travels in 2007.
He said: “We are delighted to be able to open in such a prestigious location and look forward to welcoming clients to our new agency. We have just recorded our most successful start to the year ever and expansion is very much at the centre of our plans for the future.”
He said the business, which has created four jobs and has a network of homeworkers, was looking to recruit more staff in the Helmsley area.
