LASER technology business Measurement Devices Ltd (MDL) has launched a new division as part of the business’s growth.

MDL has launched a new Technical Services Division at its York headquarters at Northminster Business Park, which will provide 3D laser measurement and consultancy services for specific projects.

The division will also demonstrate the capability of the company’s existing technology and new products as they become available.

MDL Ltd, led by managing directorn Elaine Ball, has appointed geomatics engineer Mark Reid, 32, as technical services manager in charge of developing the new division.

Mr Reid has more than 11 years experience in the laser scanning and Light Detection And Ranging (LIDAR) industry, and joins from Consolidated Gulf Company, an engineering and technology business based in Qatar, where he helped deliver some of the world’s largest laser scanning-based engineering projects in the oil and gas sector.

He said: “The global laser measurement market is forecast to double in size in the next two years and our new Technical Services Division will ensure that as many businesses as possible can benefit from MDL’s ground-breaking technology.

“Many companies which can benefit from using the latest laser surveying technology either do not have a big enough requirement to justify investing in our technology or may not have the funds to do so. By accessing the Technical Services Division on an ad-hoc basis, they will be able to call out specialists from our agents and distributors throughout the world to carry out assignments for them when they are required without the need to invest in technology or train their own staff as operators.

“The new division is also available to carry out certain assignments directly for larger end-users to demonstrate the capabilities of the latest technology.”

MDL last week announced the multi-million pound acquisition of Canadian business Thomas Engineering as the latest stage in its global growth.
