UNTIL last night you might have recognised him from his city ghost walks, but now Trevor Rooney has become the latest star of Come Dine With Me.

Trevor, 55, who has been running ghost walks in York for 32 years, is a contestant in the popular Channel 4 programme which this week sees five York residents host a dinner party and then score their competitors in secret.

Last night’s programme saw him present an eccentric “fright night” themed evening among the bric-a-brac of Dave Dee’s Banana Warehouse.

Trevor said: “I thought that to do it in a normal house would be a bit boring. I have known Dave Dee for years and it has everything you need. I made it to look like my home and where I do my ghostly investigations. I wanted it to be a fun experience for everybody.

“I thoroughly enjoyed it, it was one of the best experiences I have had for a long time.

“I knew as soon as I entered the show they were going to make me look a bit daft. I expected that and I don’t mind it.”

Monday’s show saw training guru Steve Carlyle host the first dinner party, tonight’s will see photographer Anne Albericci host a festival-themed dinner, nurse Yvonne McGill will be seen hosting a “black and white swinging 60s” dinner party tomorrow and on Friday, Rebecca Ryan throws a glitzy Hollywood themed evening.

Trevor, of Marygate, said he pulled all the stops out for the final night, donning a dress from a charity shop and shaving all of his hair off. He said the week promises some friction and a little flirting directed from him to two of the girls in the group.

Meanwhile, tonight’s host Anne, 27, from Acomb, will be shown at work at the marketing agency Beyond Colour’s studios.

She said: “It was hard work. I got only eight hours of sleep during the course of a week’s filming.”

Anne, who cooked coquille Saint Jacques, Morrocan sliced lamb and a carrot gateau with lime cream, said they have all been sworn to secrecy over who won the competition.
