AS London prepares to host the 2012 Olympics, two ancient Greeks have been helping York schoolchildren study the origins of the Games.
Theodotus and Helena, alias Keith and Rachel Matthews, paid a visit to St Lawrence’s Primary School on Thursday.
The youngsters handled replica everyday items as they learned how the Ancient Greeks ate, dressed, kept clean and enjoyed the Games.
Some also took the opportunity to dress as the ancients, including their favourite Greek gods.
Keith, a former Castle Museum curator, runs History Explorer, which organises historic interpretations in schools.
He normally concentrates on the Vikings and Romans but said he had branched out into the Greeks because of the looming Olympics.
