New bike racks for York city centre
9:08am Saturday 18th February 2012 in News
New bike racks have been created in Newgate Market, York, after City of York Council converted a row of empty trader stalls.
There is room for up to 20 bikes, which are under the old trader stall’s canopy.
This new area is best reached through the archway from Shambles and is monitored by nearby CCTV.
Coun Dave Merrett, cabinet member for city strategy, said: “Cycling in York is so popular that it is sometimes difficult to find cycle parking within the city centre, and racks are often full for much of the day.
“The new racks are a great addition to the city’s cycle parking, and make good use out of an existing market stall.
“Being undercover and sheltered from the elements is an additional bonus.”
