A TEENAGER has been airlifted to hospital following a sledging accident in a village near York.
The girl, who is in her late teens, was airlifted from Fridaythorpe to York Hospital following the accident at around 1.30pm, an ambulance service spokesman said.
The fire service was called to assist with the landing of the helicopter at Bootham Park Hospital, near to York Hospital, a spokesman said.
It is the third serious sledging accident in the region in the past week. On Wednesday a rescue operation was mounted after 14-year-old boy fell into the freezing River Foss off Haxby Road while sledging. The boy was rescued from the river by fire crews using extension ladders and was treated at the scene for the effects of hypothermia before being taken to hospital.
Last Sunday a 55-year-old man was airlifted to hospital with suspected spinal injuries after coming off his sledge at speed on a steep slope in Terrington.
