Catalytic converter event is ‘only for victims’

POLICE chiefs have clarified that an event to prevent catalytic converters being stolen from vehicles in the city is strictly for those who have been victims of the theft.

Operation Bonafide – being run by the Safer York Partnership, North Yorkshire Police and City of York Council – will allow those whose catalytic converters have been stolen in the past to have their new converters marked so they can be clearly identified if they are stolen and sold on to local scrap merchants.

The event will take place at North Eastern Tyres and Autocare at Clifton Moor next Saturday, between 10am and 4pm.

Why publicise it then, just write to the victims, you will find their addresses on the crime database. At least any metal theives reading this will now know not to target the same vehicle twice so they won't get caught weighing in a converter that has been marked to try and catch them.

Well I'm glad that's been cleared up.

Are the Police and the Press vying for the most pointless publicity items?
Operation Bonafide , only applying to previous stolen items, and will probably have minimal effects.
