CRUCIAL talks are to be held next week over the potential loss of about 140 jobs at York’s Fresh Del Monte factory.
The Bakers Food and Allied Workers’ Union is to speak to bosses of the company about potential redundancies at its site at Skelton Park in Shipton Road.
It has been reported elsewhere today that the whole factory could close after the company lost a contract to supply coleslaw and potato salad to Morrisons supermarkets.
Workers are reported to have been put on a 90 day consultation period, with the warning that the factory could close in April if it doesn’t win a new contract.
Del Monte declined to comment when contacted by The Press today.
