Janet McTeer mingles with Hollywood’s finest

OSCAR-nominated York actress Janet McTeer has attended a gala dinner ahead of this month’s Oscar ceremony.

Janet, who has been shortlisted for Best Supporting Actress for her role in the drama Albert Nobbs, rubbed shoulders with actors including George Clooney, Colin Firth and Meryl Streep at the Academy Awards nominees luncheon in Beverly Hills.

The annual dinner was held to precede the award ceremony on February 26.

Janet, 50, who was a pupil at Queen Anne School, off Bootham, said she was inspired to enter acting after Gary Oldman, who has also been nominated, for best actor, advised her to go to RADA while she was working as a waitress serving at York’s Theatre Royal.

She said her parents Jean and Allan, who live in Haxby, were very excited to hear about her second Oscar nomination.

Supporting actor: Kenneth Branagh - My Week With Marilyn; Jonah Hill - Moneyball; Nick Nolte - Warrior; Christopher Plummer - Beginners; Max von Sydow - Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close.

Supporting actress: Berenice Bejo - The Artist; Jessica Chastain - The Help; Melissa McCarthy - Bridesmaids; Janet McTeer - Albert Nobbs; Octavia Spencer - The Help.

I don't believe that Colin Firth was at this luncheon. He isn't up for an award this year sadly.
