Acomb pub licence hope

A PUB company is looking to secure a licence to reopen one of its York’s businesses after it closed suddenly last year.

The Britannia Inn, at The Green, Acomb, was boarded up last April, but Daniel Thwaites plc now plans to relaunch it as The Inn On The Green.

The chain’s application for a premises licence for the pub will go before a City of York Council licensing and gambling hearing on Thursday.

It is looking for a drinks licence until midnight from Sundays to Thursdays and until 12.30am on Fridays and Saturdays.

Two local residents have objected to the reopening and the council’s environmental protection unit has said measures must be put in place to avoid noise nuisance being caused to people living nearby.

It's been a pub for God knows how long and two residents object? No wonder this country is going down the pan. If you don't want to live near a pub, don't move near one!

Surely the re-opening of the pub is better for the area than having a boarded building which is a magnet for vandals?

This pub still has its' licence. It could reopen tonight if it wished. They are applying to vary the existing licence. Please get your facts right Press. It's amazing what you can glean from the blue notice at the premises.

it's only been closed for 10 months, how can residents be complaining about it re-opening??
with a complete overhaul it could go back to being a half-decent boozer like it was 20 years ago.
just as long as they get rid of Skol on draught and get something decent in!

Perhaps those who objected would rather it was demolished and turned into housing, or has it got a restrictive covenant?

"The Inn on the Green"? Surely 'The Sun' is more on The Green than the 'Britannia'? Or perhaps the Sun is going to rename itself "The Inn-Even-More-On The Green"?

It's a terrible name, and another example of big anonymous conglomerates not giving a stuff about a community's heritage. "Britannia" is a wonderful name, and they should be proud to keep it.

if residents want to complain then they should come out and reveal their identities.any muppet can hide behind anonimity and make mischief so come on you cowards make yourselves known and lets see if you ve lived in the area longer than the pub has existed.

I could understand it if people living near The Melbourne objected to that place having a licence. Full of druggies and scum.
