A DOORMAN was injured while trying to break up a brawl outside a York city-centre bar at the weekend.

Five people were arrested following the incident after CCTV pictures captured the fight outside Kennedy’s bar in Little Stonegate at about midnight on Friday.

The operator of the CCTV cameras alerted North Yorkshire Police and officers were sent to the incident.

A doorman working for the bar was injured in the fight and was taken to York Hospital with head injuries, believed to be cuts and bruises. His injuries were not thought to be serious.

Officers arrested four men, aged 21, 24, 30 and 51, and a 23-year-old woman at the scene. They remain in police custody as investigations continue.

Karen Waugh, owner of Kennedy’s bar, said the fight had broken out between members of a family who had come into the bar for a drink.

“They had literally been in the bar for seconds and were near the door when the fight started,” she said.

“One shoved one and then one shoved another.

“Luckily they were by the main entrance and our doorman managed to get them out quickly from our other customers and on to the street where they continued their fighting.

“At Kennedy’s, we are part of a radio system with other bars and the police. We radioed other doormen to alert them to the fight and the police managed to capture all of the people on CCTV.

“It was all over very quickly.”

Mrs Waugh said she had spoken to the injured doorman and said he was recovering from his injuries.

Any witnesses to the incident are asked to phone police on 101 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555111.
