A jury will today continue to consider its verdicts in the trial of former takeaway delivery driver accused of stealing money from his employer and attacking him with a knife.
Giving evidence in his own defence, Christopher Steven Thompson claimed Muharrem Kaya had no objections to him taking the money he collected from customers during his shift for Chubbies takeaway in Hull Road on September 24.
He denied being the person in dark clothing captured on CCTV who confronted Mr Kaya outside the takeaway at closing time on December 17.
Thompson, 36, of Alcuin Avenue, Tang Hall, York, denies theft, witness intimidation, causing Mr Kaya actual bodily harm and carrying a knife in public.
He claimed he had told Mr Kaya when he started work on September 24 he was not prepared to continue working for the takeaway in Hull Road, York, while his wages were in arrears and he would take what he was owed from that night’s takings. He claimed Mr Kaya had no objection to what he did.
The prosecution allege he stole £249 which he was not entitled to.
Thompson said he had retired to bed at 11.30pm and had no idea there had been an incident outside Chubbies until police told him.
