THE North Yorkshire woman who died following a canoeing accident has been named by police as Catherine Stainsby, from Swinton, near Malton.
Mrs Stainsby, 41, was part of a group who got into difficulties while canoeing at Hobdale Beck, Cautley, Sedbergh on New Year's Day.
Local paramedics, fire crews and police were called to the scene at about 2.25pm, and Mrs Stainsby was airlifted to Preston Royal Infirmary, were she later died.
