INTERNATIONAL karate champion Liam O’Grady’s life is in ruins after a jury convicted him of sexually abusing a 13-year-old girl.
The 30-year-old sportsman, who lived in Osbaldwick until his arrest earlier this year, broke down and collapsed in the dock at York Crown Court as the jury foreman delivered the four guilty verdicts.
Judge Stephen Ashurst ordered him to be taken down to the court cells and rose for a time to allow him to compose himself.
But when court resumed, O’Grady was unable to face returning to the dock and was remanded in custody in his absence.
He will be sentenced in January on one charge of grooming a child for sex and three of having sexual activity with her.
