SCIENTISTS at the University of York want residents to watch out for a new breed of “super spider” which is appearing in homes throughout our region.
The creepy-crawly, which is understood to be the result of breeding between two different species of house spider, can have a leg-span of anything up to 10cm.
If you spot one of the eight-legged abominations, you are being asked to capture it in a toilet roll, secured at both ends with damp tissue, which should be placed in a rigid container before sending it to Dr Geoff Oxford, Department of Biology (Area 14), University of York, Wentworth Way, Heslington, York YO10 5DD.
All specimens will be acknowledged and postage reimbursed.
