IN-FORM Copmanthorpe Football Club Under-13s have made a flying start to life in division two of the York Minor League.

The youngsters were promoted from division three of last year’s York Mitchell Sports League and opened this season with three straight wins.

A 5-1 win at Poppleton included two goals for Sam Hardy and Ollie Finch, plus one for Charlie Quick, and another 5-1 success at home to Aviva followed thanks to a brace for Finch, two for Jack Robson and one for Quick. Cop then won 3-2 at Haxby with strikes from Quick, captain Finch and Philip Selvaratnam.

Manager Michael Hardy said: “Their early season form has taken them to the summit of the York Minor League second division.

“It is hoped the players will continue to enjoy their football, develop as a team and maintain their impressive early form throughout the season.”

The side suffered their first defeat in the York FA U13s Cup last weekend, losing 3-1 to Haxby Town.
