A YORK chippy has proved it is the “plaice” to be after securing national recognition of the quality of its food.

Miller’s Famous Fish And Chips, in The Village, Haxby, has been presented with an award for its excellent standard of preparation and hygiene.

The Fish & Chip Quality Award, was given to proprietor David Miller by the National Federation of Fish Fryers (NFFF), making it the only outlet in York to hold the honour.

The federation runs the scheme to encourage high standards of preparation and hygiene. To qualify, each shop has to be analysed by an approved adviser who assesses each store for its hygiene, presentation, cleanliness and staff training, among other factors.

The fish used in the store is sourced from responsible fisheries in Iceland and the Faroe Islands and caught by individual lines, ensuring the fish is not bruised or damaged, and is of the highest quality.

Mr Miller, owner of the business which employs ten staff, said: “I am delighted to have received the Fish & Chip Quality Award. To qualify is very important to me, my staff and business.

“The most important aspect of the award, of course, is that the customer can now buy in confidence, knowing that the product and the shop are of a high standard.”
