FLASH flooding struck a village near York yesterday.
Staff at the Swordsman Inn, in Stamford Bridge, faced their third mopping-up operation in five days after heavy rain led to drains overflowing.
The pub, near the village’s bridge, had to close briefly after water gushed in following the heavy showers at about 3pm yesterday, which lasted for about 90 minutes.
The pub also had to close for several hours last Wednesday after heavy rain hit the region. Manager Kelly Goodwin said: “It is just down to the drains being unable to cope with that much rain and water backing up. It came through the doors, but we managed to get it cleared up and dry the floors out.”
Fire crews gave advice to residents in Market Weighton and Goole yesterday after seeped into their homes, and floodwater was reported in Clayfield Road, Pocklington.
