BRIGANTES, in Micklegate, has been named pub of the year by the York branch of the Campaign for Real Ale (Camra) for the second time in four years.

Branch officials handed over the award at a special presentation evening on Wednesday.

Chairman Matt Grant said afterwards: “Brigantes is a worthy winner of our most prestigious award, as they have been very much at the top of the pub scene in York since opening in February 2006.”

Kev Jones, landlord of Brigantes, said: “I am delighted to get the recognition and hope to maintain the high standards. I want to thank my staff for all their hard work.”

The award is voted for by Camra members, who rate pubs according to the quality of their beer, cider or perry; their atmosphere, style and decor; the service and welcome; their sympathy for Camra’s aims; and good value.

Brigantes won the branch’s Town Pub Of The Season award in Spring 2007, and has now been named its pub of the year for both 2008 and 2011, making it the first pub to win the title twice in such quick succession.
