A SET of luxury holiday cottages in North Yorkshire has been recognised as the best self-catering accommodation in the country.
The Dovecote Barns in Kelfield have won the award for best self-catering holiday of the year at the Enjoy England Awards for Excellence. It is the latest accolade for the luxury eco-barns run by Brigita and Richard Bramley.
The barns have previously won the award for Yorkshire’s best self-catering accommodation for 2010/2011 at the Welcome To Yorkshire White Rose Awards, the winner of York’s best self-catering accommodation at the York Tourism Awards 2010 and a five-star gold award from Enjoy England in 2010. Gary Verity, chief executive of Welcome To Yorkshire, said: “We are thrilled that The Dovecote Barns are not only White Rose Award winners but have now beaten the nation in the Enjoy England Awards. Congratulations to all of our winners; they should be justifiably proud of their achievements. The quality provided by tourism businesses in Yorkshire is second to none and the reason why visitors return time again.”
The three barns are described as “sumptuously finished” 18th-century barn conversions which use only renewable energy.
Each barn has a private garden area with a barbecue.
Dovecote Barns were in good company at the Enjoy England Awards in Birmingham – the Royal Shakespeare Company (RSC) also won an award.
Other winners included Chatsworth House in Derbyshire for best large visitor attraction and Royal Ascot in Berkshire for the best tourism event.
