THE founder of one of York’s biggest employers has been presented with a CBE by the Princess Royal.

Businessman Hamish Ogston, who founded CPP Group plc, was given the honour in a ceremony at Buckingham Palace for services to business and to the community of York.

Mr Ogston said he was accompanied to the palace by his wife and children, and went on to a celebration lunch, where he was joined by guests including former University of York vice-chancellor and York Civic Trust chairman Sir Ron Cooke.

Mr Ogston moved CPP from London to York in 1999 and it employs about 1,000 people at its base in Holgate Park. In 2009, he donated £2million towards the restoration of the East Window at York Minster.
