alas spring must be here ! no longer do i wait for the swallows arrival or trees budding .the first biker injury of the year is a now a sure sign that spring has arrived. this accident will be one of a long list during the course of the year unfortunately. without pre judging this crash the police and courts should use a more aggresive stance to bikers breaking the law. touchy feely biker days in helmsley have done nothing to reduce the annual carnage. the only factor to reduce numbers to date is a poor wet summer

I totally agree. Just so long as car drivers who knock pedal cyclist and motorcyclist off their machines because their eating mars bars, texting their friends or they just didnt see them, get the same treatment. Lets not forget for every 1 idiot on a bike their are dozens in cars.

This biker happens to be my brother and was hit by a french driver driving on the wrong side of the road in a hire car. he has sustained injuries to both arms which required surgery last night to insert plates and pins. My other brother also has a motorbike and was hit by a car last year when standing stationary in a line of traffic. My husband also has a motorbike and has been almost knocked off on more than one occasion by inconsiderate drivers who think that motorcycles do not need much space. Do not assume that just because we have motorcycles that we remove our brains before driving them not all motorcyclists are idiots.

Well said anniebrannen..hope ur brother makes a quick recovery, there are more idiots in cars than on motorbikes..you get the odd idiot on a bike but not all bikers are like that.it makes me so mad when people think that it must be his/her fault just because they ride a motorcycle.

Really good to see support to bikers!! Love the posts where people start throwing around assumptions when they do not have the facts. Too many accidents are caused by a car drivers lack of vision, the number of times I have had near misses because of car drivers who meander around not paying any attention as they are safe and protected in their cage, then they have the nerve to blame the biker, ridiculous!!
Really hopes this chap makes a good recovery, know the corner and road well, all the best.

i drive a car as well as ride a bike, and i can tell you now, there are as many cars that pull out infront of my car as there are bike, i sometimes wonder if my vehicles are made the same way as the stealth bomber, because no matter wether i'm riding or driving, nobody seems to see me at all,
i think its a good idea to make all car drivers spend at least 6 months on a bike before they are let on the road in a car, because maybe, and i do say maybe, they might just pay a little bit more attention whren on the roads.

I drive a car, a van and ride a motorcycle. In my opinion, you could put some people into any mode of transport and they'd still be a retard.

Hope the motorcyclist makes a full recovery. Actually the biggest danger to motorcyclists is the state of our roads. There appears no big rush to fix pot holes and crumbling surfaces spreading gravel about what remains of the surface, lethal on a bend or braking zone.
Just today I saw what looked like a light blue Escort going more than 70 in a 30 mph zone. Don't blame the vehicle, be it 4 wheels, three wheels or two; it's who is in control of it that counts.

I hope your brother gets well soon!! I was one of the bikers that arrived shorty after it had happened. I couldn't believe the fact the french driver was on the wrong side of the road!! I hope he makes a speedy and full recovery.

On another note, I'd also wish people weren't so quick to always presume it is the bikers fault in accidents. Car drivers seem to have a total lack of awareness for bikes.

Well done for managing to completely contradict yourself in 34 words whilst completely missing the irony.
.
Driving my car in the Dales, my experience of bikers seems to be that most go past me at 100 plus MPH and some very twisty roads too – funny that, must be my lack of vision playing up. My ears must be going too – most of my bike-riding chums always seem to tell me that car drivers are chiefly responsible for bike-related accidents – yet in the next breath they proudly admit to “managing to do the ton in first.” Is it me or is that lack of irony rearing its inconvenient head again?
.
I’m glad this guy is going to be alright – doesn’t sound like it was his fault (although we don’t know the facts yet) but even dullard car drivers understand that bikes are designed to go faster than 70 MPH so please credit us with the intelligence to work this out for ourselves – it really isn’t like you’re fooling anyone.

Sorry might be missing the trick but I dont see the contradiction on my comment??

And I do agree that some bikers ride like loons and thier speed causes accidents but I was merely pointing out that alot mine included were not caused by me but by the shortsighted actions of car drivers.

I guess in the Dales I must be lucky hardly ever to come across any of the bikers doning 100mph plus, maybe the odd one each year but never regularly, the roads just dont allow for it.

As a dullard car driver you must appreciate that all cars are also deisgined to go faster than 70mph so for me that argument on its own is irrelevant.
