Heworth ARLC Under-16s gave one of their best performances for some time to dispose of Myton Warriors 50-14 in the Yorkshire Youth League Cup.

Myton play in the tier below but the young Villagers, facing a relegation battle in the premier division, could still take credit after reaching the half-century mark in breezing through to the fourth round.

Loose-forward Jordan Potter, stand-off Harry Deighton and full-back Alex Clough each scored two tries, while Jason Smith, Fraser West and Flannan Naismith also crossed the whitewash. Deighton added seven goals.

Man of the match was second-row William Barratt.

York Acorn ARLC U15s ground out a 22-4 victory in testing conditions on a small sloping pitch at Stanningley.

Defences were on top and it took 20 minutes for the deadlock to be broken, when Acorn hooker Lewis Lord sidestepped over, Ash Robson converting.

Then big Tom Gurden barged in.

After the break, Acorn got the ball wide more, and had some success as winger Tom Burdett crossed in the corner and, after a flowing move, Josh Potter scored.

Stanningley got on the scoresheet aided by a series of penalties, but Jarrod Smith restored Acorn’s healthy lead after some slick handling from the back line.

Acorn defended excellently, while the man-of-the-match award was shared by Lord and Robson, who were at the heart of the Blue and Golds’ best attacks. York Acorn U14s got back to winning ways with a hard-fought 28-16 triumph at Hunslet Parkside.

Acorn fell behind but good rugby saw Reef Wilson score twice and Lloyd Todd crash over, Jake Calam adding the extras for an 18-6 lead.

Acorn stood up to intimidatory tactics from Hunslet and, although they conceded a try after the break, they turned on the style as Callum McDarby, despite a hostile crowd nearby, kept his composure to finish a super set of six with a try.

Reece Rushworth eluded three tacklers to seal victory, despite Hunslet bagging another try.

Rushworth, Reece Arthur, Billy Nicholson and Jimmy Hardwick, with perhaps his best game this season, stood out alongside man-of-the-match McDarby.

Two-try Harry Radcliffe was man of the match in Heworth U13s’ 30-16 win over Featherstone Lions.

Heworth captain Jacob Sunderland opened the scoring, and interceptions from Jack Longstaff and most improved player Louis Brown saw the Villagers go further ahead.

Aaron Varndell (2) and top tackler Arran Naismith also touched down, while strong breaks from the likes of Robin Page contributed to the victory in an evenly-matched game.

York Acorn U13s continued their battle for the title but paid for indifferent handling and poor defence as they drew 16-16 at Keighley.

Acorn’s Ryan Woodcock used strength to score in the first five minutes and Brandon Harris determinedly went over.

But Keighley cut the gap at half-time and, although Bradley Winters added to Acorn’s tally, the hosts hit back to level.

Acorn’s goals were booted by Ben Dale and Harris Most improved player Alex Hardcastle and men of the match Jack Innes and Ryan Johnson played one of their best games yet but it was a poor team show.

Unity and teamwork was again to the fore as Heworth U11s kept a second successive clean sheet in their 12-0 win in poor conditions at Garforth Tigers.

The forwards did most of the graft as the conditions made it a tight game up the middle, with Cain North, Jamie Morrison, Jake Wright and Leon Beattie showing strength.

Jimmy Pigott excelled in defence backed up by top tackler Henri Grimbley and Arron Mcbride, in his last game for the club, while Leon Beattie produced the tackle of the game to deny Garforth a try.

Alfie Hancock got heavily involved in his first outing and Tom Kilgar had his best game for the club.

Harry Sheppeard opened the scoring as he collected a Garforth kick and sprinted 70 metres to the line, Sam Young goaling.

Shay North later pounced from acting-half for a try and goal to wrap up the win.

Jak Ostergard, Kian Oliver and Myles Harrison all scored hat-tricks as Heworth U9s enjoyed a great 12-2 win over Sherburn.
