Miss York 2011 contest launched

THIS year’s Miss York contest will be launched at a party at a city centre nightclub tomorrow night.

Organiser Naomi Smith said the search was on for entrants to the 2011 competition, and she had teamed up with Club Salvation to ensure there were plenty of candidates.

“Scouts will be at Club Salvation looking for girls who they think have the potential to win this year’s Miss York and go on to represent the city in the Miss England Grand Final,” she said.

“This is a chance for the young women in the York postcode area or within a 20-mile radius of the city to get spotted. Robert Nemeti, one of York’s top freelance photographers, will also be taking pictures of all the entrants on the night.”

She revealed that the final of the competition, which was now in its seventh year, would be held at the Royal York Hotel on Sunday, May 22, and the event promised to be “bigger and better than ever”.

Naomi said she would attend tomorrow’s party, along with Melissa Chapman, a previous entrant of Miss York and last year’s Miss Scarborough organiser, between 10pm and 1am.

“The first 100 girls who sign up will get a free glass of champagne,” she said.

Naomi stressed that women unable to get to Club Salvation tomorrow would still be able to enter, by emailing info@missyork.co.uk or going to http://www.facebook.com/missyorkcompetition

Naomi said: “Online applications close on Sunday, April 3. Auditions will be held on Sunday, April 10, and successful applicants will be notified beforehand. The Miss York competition is open to any girl between the ages of 17 and 24 who has not been married and does not have children.”

Naomi, who won the award in 2007 and went on to become runner-up in the Miss England contest, agreed to run the 2011 competition after reading an appeal in The Press for an organiser to come forward.

Bored already, bet there will be a string of articles in the weeks ahead begging for entries as no one can be bothered with such antiquated nonsense any more. If Club Salvation is the selection criterion then that is a great start, just a bunch of drunken chavs.

THAT rule is bang out of order whats been married or having a child got to do with it.

It may as well go the full hog and say:

Entrants must be virgins, non smokers, non vegetarians, never had a boyfriend and never eaten processed food... tut tut

They're clearly not going for class then! Chosing the worst nightspot in town, they should have criteria on who can throw the hardest punch, who can get most drunk, who can projectile vomit the furthest, who can cry for the longest without getting mascara all over their faces and who can wear the shortest dress in the coldest temperature.

Even one tried to play devils advocate, you could not think of any excuses to justify this condition. Very dodgy.

Entrants must have no personality, self respect or brain power.
