BEST-selling children’s author Jacqueline Wilson visited York for a sell-out book reading at the Yorkshire Museum. Tickets to see the hugely popular writer, probably best known for her Tracy Beaker stories, sold out two weeks ago.

Jacqueline, who also wrote the multi-award winning The Illustrated Mum, said: “I am so happy to be in York for two reasons – one is the secondhand book shops and the other is Betty’s Tearooms.

“It’s great news the event is so popular.

“Often when you travel away from home, you never know quite how people will react, but it is so heart-warming when events sell out.”

Jacqueline, who has sold more than 30 million books around the world, is promoting her new book Lily Alone, which is the story of a girl left to care for her three siblings when her mum goes on holiday with a new boyfriend.

The author said it was the type of story that occasionally received coverage in the media.

“I had often thought about this situation and I was always interested in grey areas, when a mum is not wicked, she is just feckless and doesn’t sort her child care issues out.”
