PUPILS at a York primary school have picked up a prize for their singing.
Wigginton Primary School has been named as a platinum singing school as part of The Sing Up Awards, which recognise, celebrate and promote schools that put singing at the heart of their community life.
Wigginton is one of only 62 schools in England to receive the award.
Music leader Jessa Liversidge has been working with other local schools, at Shipton-by-Beningborough and Easingwold, to spread Wigginton’s enthusiasm for singing.
She said: “We are all very excited about the platinum award, which recognises all the singing staff and pupils enjoy at Wigginton, from classes singing number facts, to talented soloists; from inspiring inter-generational projects to huge, riotous whole-school sings.”
Head teacher Pat Boyle said: “Singing has an extremely high-profile here at Wigginton. Classes sing to help them learn and I am always impressed by the confidence and talent of our singers in assemblies, concerts and other events.”
