Berwick Kaler announces his 2011 pantomime

Berwick Kaler Berwick Kaler

DAME Berwick Kaler’s 33rd pantomime at York Theatre Royal will be The York Family Robinson, a completely original work.

“It’s a cross between The Swiss Family Robinson and Robinson Crusoe!” reveals Rebecca Storey, the theatre’s press and media manager.

“The York Family Robinson will capture the very essence of a York Theatre Royal pantomime, drawing on the city which it calls home and celebrating the unique nature of its pantomime.”

Writer and co-director Berwick first announced his intention to write his pantomime version of Robinson Crusoe on the last night of Humpty Dumpty in January last year, only for the choice of 2010 show to be changed later to Jack And The Beanstalk.

Now he will combine two tales of shipwrecks in The York Family Robinson.

The show will run from December 15 to February 4, and tickets will go on sale on March 1 at 9am in person at the theatre box office.

As always, tickets for the final night will be pulled from a hat and you can register your interest at the box office.

Wasnt too sure about his last panto. You could tell in the last few days he was getting slightly impatient and wasnt too fussed about the dedications.

Hopefully Berwick will acknowledge York's Cycling City status, by making his grand entrance on behalf of York Family Robinson on two wheels......

Or hopefully he will remember that the majority of York residents can’t stand cyclists and make no reference to them.

Brilliant! Berwick is a genius. I loved Jack and The Beanstalk and can't wait till this years. I also went to Cinderella at the opera house and it was not a patch on the comedy from Berwick Kaler.

I think you could replace him as the dame, you're miles funnier, you're road safety tips would make any audience die of laughter after Berwick's jokes.

Goody! I can't wait.
I hope that no cyclists push in, though.

Good first half, then ran out of steam this year after the interval. Berwick had tripped on the ice which curtailed his frollicking about.
.
Marooned mariner Robinson Crusoe being born in York has never been exploited much, this could be a first!

I went to one pantomime aged 7 and "never again." Put simply, it was nowhere near as good as Star Wars.
