YORK Rotary Club has celebrated its 90th anniversary.

The achievement was commemorated in a ceremony at the Mansion House.

Coun Sue Galloway, the Lord Mayor of York, said: “People initiate and develop the significant changes that have happened in York during the last 90 years and it is not surprising that many of them were Rotarians. I understand during that time three archbishops, 16 lord mayors 17 sheriffs and numerous business leaders have been members of the York Rotary Club.”

Graham Wilford, the club’s president, said: “Our predecessors laid down a solid foundation, but we continue to move with the times and look for new ways to serve the community.

“We are launching a unique project to raise funds for Yorkshire Cancer Research and the End Polio Now campaign.

“York90 is the website for a limited edition prize draw with the winner getting an all expenses paid VIP visit for two to York.

“The package is designed to appeal to North Americans and will be marketed primarily, but not exclusively, through Rotary Clubs in Canada and the United States.”
