A NEW exercise craze could be about to take fitness fans in York by storm.

People aged over 50 are being invited to enjoy the latest exercise class for free, courtesy of City of York Council. Nordic walking uses special poles to help exercise the whole body and has low impact on joints. It also burns 46 per cent more calories than normal walking.

Courses are funded through Age Concern York’s Fit as a Fiddle programme and Natural England and will run for an hour a week for a total of eight weeks, with no previous experience needed.

Catriona Sudlow, older people’s physical activity officer at the council, said: “It’s a new craze and it is really taking off. Nordic Walking UK say it is the fastest growing physical activity in the world.”

"NEW" ? Hardly! (and why the upper-case?).
Nordic walking has been around for many years. I've been doing it for around 20 years and would recommend it to anyone.
