Seven special schools from York and North Yorkshire came together at Heworth ARLC for a fifth annual tag rugby festival.
More than 80 youngsters with learning and physical disabilities took part in the Tagability tournament, which was a joint venture between the Ebor Schools Sports Partnership, the Special Schools Sports Partnership based at Mowbray School, York City Knights’ community development team and the North Yorkshire Rugby League Service Area.
Pupils from Applefields School, York, Mowbray School, Bedale, Forest School, Knaresborough, Welburn Hall School, Kirkbymoorside, and Woodlands School, Scarborough, spent a full day receiving coaching from the Knights in between playing a series of games.
The festival was hailed a huge success, with Forest School lifting the trophy and pupils receiving certificates for first, second, third and fourth places.
The Knights are seeking sponsorship for their current programme of work in the community, including festivals like this one.
Anyone interested in supported the registered charity that is the York City Knights Foundation, or any of the individual events it runs, can phone Adam Prentis at the Knights on 01904 767404.
