STAFF and children at a York school have found an “eggs-cellent” way to raise money for charity.
Rufforth Primary School has bought four hens for pupils to look after, and plans to use them to raise funds to help African communities.
Teacher Kathy West said: “We raised money by organising events to pay for the enclosure and the hens.
“The children learn about being responsible for, and caring for living creatures. They gather chickweed and dandelions to help feed them, collect eggs, and a team cleans them out every week. The parents help at weekends and in the holidays.”
The eggs are sold from the school classroom, and all proceeds are sent to World Emergency Relief, a charity which helps buy hens for rural communities in Africa.
