I TOO saw both Pink Floyd and Procol Harum play New Earswick Folk Hall.

For various reasons, my memories of musical events of that period are somewhat hazy. The Rolling Stones may have played the Rialto; The Beatles did.

The Stones' signatures, including that of Brian Jones, can still be seen in the upstairs bar at Plunketts restaurant, which was then known as Maddens.

A regular at the Assembly Rooms was Geno Washington & The Ram Jam Band, in my opinion, one of the greatest live acts of all time.

York venues including St John's College, the university, The Boulevard, Jaspers et al, hosted the who's who of pop/rock music of the 1960s/1970s. I believe that one member of the MC5 came from York and it is possible they did play here.

Scarborough also had a lively music scene, with the Futurist Theatre hosting package concerts featuring several live acts at a time. Among these were The Everly Brothers, Gene Vincent, The Hollies, The Searchers, Manfred Mann, The Dave Clark 5, The Tornados, The Kinks and The Beatles, to name but a few.

Best of all, I attended a dance at Scarborough tech, aged about 17/18. Top of the bill were Black Sabbath, who were supported by a band called Free who had just reached number one in the charts with All Right Now.

Another event I attended was a Beach Boys concert with the original band line-up at The Odeon, Leeds Headrow. They had just released Good Vibrations.
