THE BISHOP of Selby joined York’s army of angels to help patrol the city’s streets.
The Right Rev Martin Wallace teamed up with York’s Street Angels on Friday evening.
The Angels are a church-based team that works on Friday and Saturday nights, to talk to revellers and help people where needed.
The bishop said: “I wanted to give them support and encouragement and also to see what they get up to.
“I was very impressed. They offered help to a whole range of people, from girls sitting in shop doorways who had had rather too much to drink and were dehydrated and needed some water, through to others who had spent three hours in stilettos and were grateful for free flip-flops.”
He said others wanted advice on where to get a taxi, and a lot of people recognised the Angels and chatted to them about Christianity.
