Spending cuts campaigners take to city walls

8:18am Thursday 9th September 2010

A GROUP of York campaigners took to the city walls yesterday to campaign against spending cuts being made by the coalition government.

York Stop The Cuts – Right To Work group marched with banners along the City Walls overlooking Station Road and Rougier Street to make their voice heard.

The group, which includes people who will be directly affected by the cuts, such as workers for voluntary organisations, public sector workers as well as other political parties, are also organising a trip to campaign at the Conservative Party conference in Birmingham on October 3.

Campaigner Sophie Shaw said: “These cuts are unacceptable because they’re hitting the poorest hardest, while the banks are bailed out and big businesses getaway with tax evasion.”
