Passengers to get say on York bus services

9:20am Wednesday 8th September 2010

RESIDENTS in York are to be quizzed about their views on local bus services, including what they think about fares and the reliability of the network.

A decision session for City of York Council’s executive member for city strategy, Coun Steve Galloway, has seen officers asked to include questions centred around the city’s bus system on a future survey, which will be backed up through an online poll and also seek opinions on speed, comfort and accessibility.

It came after Labour group leader James Alexander organised a petition calling for a freeze in First York bus fares, an end to service cuts and a review of services on the edge of York to ensure villages have enough access to buses.

Coun Galloway said the privatisation of bus services had proved to be “flawed”, but the cost of reversing this was likely to be “beyond the resources available to central Government in difficult economic times.”
