THE largest Allied Air Forces Day in the North is set to take place in York tomorrow to mark the 70th anniversary of the Battle Of Britain.
More than 450 veterans, ex- service personnel and serving members of the RAF will take part in the Parade and Drumhead Service at the Yorkshire Air Museum, at Elvington.
The parade is made up of members of regional RAF Associations, Royal British Legion Branches, Royal Observer Corps Association and other forces associations, and a large contingent of serving personnel from 609 (West Riding) Squadron RAuxAF from RAF Leeming.
The head of the RAF, Air Chief Marshal Sir Stephen Dalton, will take the salute, and the service will take place in the Museum’s memorial hangar, against the backdrop of a Halifax bomber and Hawker Hurricane in Battle Of Britain colours.
A parade of bands of the Northern and Eastern Region Air Training Corps and members of the East Yorkshire RBL Riders Group will take place before the service at 2.45pm.
The event will end with a flypast by a Spitfire from the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight, at 4.30pm.
Gates open to the public at 10am, normal admission fees apply, and the parade begins at 2pm.
