Parking changes at York Railway Station

PASSENGERS driving to York Railway Station by car will be able to pay for short stay parking over the phone with a credit or debit card.

York-based train operator East Coast is launching a new cashless system called RingGo at nine of its stations along the East Coast Mainline route, so people no longer need hunt in their car, purse or wallet for elusive change.

However, a spokesman said the system would not apply to York’s long stay car park because it had barriers in place and RingGo was only available for pay and display car parks, such as the short stay one.

He said motorists would still be able to pay with coins at the machine.

Each station’s car park had its own unique RingGo code, and motorists should quote this number when they called the East Coast RingGo number on 01904 899 877 to pay for their parking.

You would need a good credit limit on your credit card to pay for the OTT costs of parking in York.

Could East Coast please revise the cost of parking. £1 to pick someone up from the station is scandalous. It ought to be free for half an hour at least to accomodate waiting for delayed trains. The cost went up 100% when National Express took over. This has nothing to do with covering costs. It is sheer greed.

This won't help me find a short stay parking space when I want one though!
With some vision and planning, a two or three storey long stay car park at the back of the Station would have released acres of room for short stay parking/taxi ranks etc. at the southern end of the station.

Disappointed I have to say that the press did not allow the public to comment on the tragedy that was the poor driver of the Audi A3 involved in the fatal accident on the A19.

That poor driver will forever have to live with that day just because one of Yorks true scumbags picked him to crash into on a nicked bike that he had neither the right or the skill to be riding.

I truly have sympathy for that poor driver that they had to experience that.
