DOZENS of vintage motorcycles were on display in York this weekend at the annual Golden Era Run.

About 75 motorbikes, aged between 80 and 100, took part in the rally at the Yorkshire Air Museum in Elvington.

The event, organised by the North Eastern Section of the Vintage Motorcycle Club, was specifically for pre-1930 motorcycles, and early examples of sidecars and three wheelers also took part.

The oldest was Derek Pollard’s recently restored 1903 Quadrant.

Nortons, Triumphs and Velocettes were on display, alongside rarer names as Montgomery and Torpedo, while Ken Mellor of Selby rode the only known example in the UK of a Coventry-built York motorcycle from 1929.
