CHAINSAW sculpting, miniature railways, cattle and horse displays were among the attractions at the Tockwith & District Annual Show at the weekend.
More than 120 trophies were awarded at the show, which took place at the Tockwith & District Showground in Cattal Moor Lane and had a theme this year of education, involvement and explanation of the countryside.
Thousands of visitors from across the region turned up to celebrate the 65th anniversary of the show, and were treated to displays featuring hundreds of animals.
Pigs, sheep and dogs, along with country displays, fruit, vegetables and flowers were enjoyed by visitors, along with a Yorkshire food tent, a flat cap chucking competition and a dog dash.
Other attractions include celebrity chef cooking demonstrations, and a farrier’s competition shoeing shire horses.
The show has become an important part of the village’s life, having raised funds for its own show field, as well as contributing regular donations to local and national charities.
The weather at this year’s show was in contrast to 2009, when there were torrential downpours, with the glorious sunshine on Saturday being broken occasionally by heavy showers.
