YORK Scout leader Michelle Wilson is leading the way on a 1,000-mile cycle trip.
Michelle, of Yorvik Explorer Scouts in Dringhouses, will be getting on her bike with 12 young people from the group who are going to tackle a route from Land’s End to John O’Groats.
The youngsters have been raising money for the trip by bag-packing and fundraising at fairs.
They have all got some experience of long rides by taking part in previous trips with Michelle – such as the lochs and glens (Glasgow to Inverness) and the coast to coast – but the furthest they have been in a week is about 260 miles. This latest journey is set to take 18 days, roughly 60 miles a day, 13 campsites and six youth hostels.
Most of the Explorers are collecting sponsorship for Martin House – and they hope to have a cheque big enough to present at the open day later in the year.
