PLANS to build a house on land in York have drawn objections from nearby residents, and a local councillor has stepped forward to voice their concern.

The planning application, submitted to City of York Council, requests permission to build a pitched-roof bungalow on a site in Dringhouses, near the junction of Tadcaster Road and Old Moor Lane.

Following discussions with residents in nearby Aldersyde Court about their concerns, local Liberal Democrat Councillor Tom Holvey has written to City of York Council to formally object to the plans.

Coun Holvey said: “This is a revised plan for this development as a previous application was rejected earlier this year. Many residents objected to the original application and their concerns haven’t been addressed by this new application.

“My main concern is about the impact the development will have on the residents of ground floor flats in Aldersyde Court.”

More than a dozen letters objecting to the plans have been sent to the council by nearby residents, with complaints including light and outlook issues for neighbours, sewage systems not being taken into account in the application.

Some residents also believed the new building would reduce the value of their properties, and highlighted the fact that three previous proposals for the site had been refused by the council since the late 1970s. Coun Holvey said: “This open space is considered vital to the visual amenity of the residents of adjacent flats.

“The proximity of the proposed development to Aldersyde Court means that many of the people in the ground floor flats see a great deal of their light blocked out by development. I believe this would have a disproportionately large effect on the lives of the residents of those flats.”

The plans go before the planning committee on August 3.
