A1079 Hull Road gas repair work is postponed

PLANS to carry out gas repairs on a main road into York have been postponed until later this summer.

The repairs were due to take place on the A1079 Hull Road later this month, and would have installed temporary traffic lights only yards from ongoing road closures in Lawrence Street.

Excavations would have been made outside the Black Bull pub and at the junction with Tang Hall Lane, and had been planned for the summer period to minimise disruption to local gas supplies.

After discussing the plans with City of York Council, United Utilities has decided not to go ahead with the repairs, which were due to start on July 24 and last for nine days, until after the Lawrence Street repairs were complete. A spokesperson for United Utilities said: “After consultation with City of York Council highways we have decided to reschedule this nine-day non-emergency work. We are currently discussing another suitable start date. We do hope to be able to carry out the work this summer.”

United Utilities announced this week that the road closures in place around the gas main repair works in Lawrence Street, Walmgate, Foss Islands Road and Barbican Road, will be extended for a further three weeks. The delay will mean they will remain in place until the second week of August.
