LATINO passion looks set to bring a splash of colour to York tomorrow as Spanish football fans head in to town to cheer on their team.

One small corner of the city centre looks set to double up as a mini-Madrid as the Spanish hope their team will be clutching the ultimate prize in Football following the 7.30pm clash with Holland tomorrow.

Much of the support will be centred on the La Tasca restaurant in Back Swinegate.

Manager Damian Thompson said: “We ended up with about 80 or 90 Spanish people here watching the football for the semi-final and we are expecting that and more on Sunday.

At neighbouring Cuban restaurant and bar Bobo Lobo, staff there were expecting a big turnout of Latino supporters after the game.

“We are going to push the boat out on Sunday,” said one member of staff. “The place has been packed with Spanish supporters through the World Cup.”

Meanwhile, a York pub is staging a World Cup Fun Day tomorrow.

The Knavesmire, in Albermarle Road, will start the festivities at noon, ahead of the kickoff, with a barbecue and bucking bronco machine from 2pm.

There will also be a Subbuteo set, the opportunity for fans to swap Panini stickers and prizes for who can stay on the bucking bronco the longest, while the money raised will go to the Prostate Cancer Charity, for which the pub has already raised £300.
