TEACHERS were pelted with wet sponges during a fundraising day for the charity Water Aid.
Pupils at St Oswald’s Primary School, in Fulford, raised £431 thanks to initiatives including a temporary tattoo sale and raffle.
The youngsters also held a swap shop where they could exchange their unwanted items.
The day was organised by the school’s water committee, which consists of Year 6 pupils, Holly Bullock, Amina Rizvi and Katie Derbyshire. Holly, 11, said: “Water Aid helps people who don’t have clean water by installing pumps in villages that don’t have them.
“It makes me quite sad that some people can’t just turn on a tap to get clean water, but then I feel quite happy because we’ve raised this money so they are not in that situation.”
