A YORK primary school has struck gold.

Dringhouses Primary School’s arts education programme has earned it the Artsmark Gold award, which is the highest award granted by Arts Council England. Arts co-ordinator Ann Poxon said: “Throughout the school year, there is an extensive range of arts activities, for example dance, music, drama, art and design, using a mixture of traditional and modern technology”.

Children and staff were invited to give the school some extra sparkle by dressing in gold or yellow to celebrate its special achievement.

Arts Council England launched the Artsmark awards to encourage schools to increase the range, quantity and type of arts available to pupils, while also raising the profile of arts education.
