TAKE-UP of school meals has reached 90 per cent at Haxby Road Primary School in York.
The school offers fresh meals cooked from scratch by the York-based caterer, Dolce, with a system that allows children to pre-order meals so they are guaranteed to get the food they want at lunchtime.
Managing director Dan Curtis said: “You can make healthy meals work in schools. Vegetables should be crunchy – children prefer them that way – and you need to engage children with food on offer. We regularly host pupil focus groups to find out which healthy choices are working, and which ones aren’t.”
